Abstract

This study compared the metabolic effects of a moderate-carbohydrate, high-protein diet (MCHP), with a high-carbohydrate, high-fibre diet (HCHF), on insulin sensitivity in Māori at increased risk of developing diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Ninety Māori were enrolled into 3 groups : MCHP, HCHF, and control. The findings of the study consisted of 3 phases: weight loss with support; weight maintenance with support; and weight maintenance without support, including anthropometric, bio-electrical and biochemical measurements.
