Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine the change in incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus, and the time-course of glycemic control in a regional pediatric cohort with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This retrospective analysis used prospectively collected data on 52 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus from a population-based treatment referral cohort from 1995 to 2007. Based on the results, the authors conclude that the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in childhood or adolescence "... increased markedly over a 13-yr period in the Auckland region. Long-term metabolic control remains poor with current medical treatment".
