The global obesity epidemic is one of the major health challenges of our time. Changing food types, food availability and consumption patterns have led to an increase in the proportion of obese children and adults over the past 30 years. Communities and governments are now responding with initiatives that influence food environments and eating behaviours. Programmes across the country are supporting healthy environments and behaviours - from breastfeeding to healthy ageing, from healthier pies to improved food labelling and from supermarkets to marae.
