Being physically active is a core part of the New Zealand culture, whether it is competitive sports, enjoying our spectacular landscape or recreation with friends and whanau. Increasingly, technology and changing work patterns are reducing opportunities for daily physical activity. However, there is a renewed understanding in the community of the importance of physical activity in health and wellbeing. Supporting physical activity is an aim shared by a huge number of organisations and individuals across government, business and community.
