The annual report highlights the Ministry’s goals set out in its strategic documents and reports back on the activities undertaken to show how the Ministry is progressing to deliver on its strategic priorities and shows progress made against targets and outcomes for the 2016/2017 financial year.
The 2016/17 year was a very busy year for the Ministry as it worked with the wider health and disability sector to implement the priorities set out in the New Zealand Health Strategy and deliver on the Government’s Better Public Services targets with the focus on delivering more equitable health outcomes for priority population groups.
The Ministry also achieved some significant milestones such as the successful completion of a social bonds pilot programme and working with multiple sector agencies to set up a programme to ensure that care and support workers would receive the correct wages as from 1 July 2017 under the care and support workers’ pay equity settlement.
The Ministry also worked with the disability support sector to develop an approach that will transform the way disability support services will be delivered. 2016/17 was a year of transformation for the Ministry and the annual report also highlights the Ministry’s transformation journey.
