How much free sugar do Australians consume? Findings from a national survey

The authors sought to identify the characteristics of Australian adults exceeding the World Health Organisation's free sugar intake recommendations and analyse sources of free sugar. They found that almost half of all adults were high free sugar consumers. More than one‐third of adults in each demographic, socioeconomic and health behaviour subgroup were high free sugar consumers. Of the food groups containing free sugar, beverages contributed the most, particularly for young adults.
