The authors evaluated the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions (diet and physical activity) in overweight or obese pregnant and/or postpartum women for managing postpartum weight after giving birth. In a systematic review, randomised controlled trials were divided into three categories based on the timing of the intervention: pregnancy only, postpartum only, and pregnancy and postpartum. The authors found that "that successful postpartum weight management is achievable with intensive lifestyle interventions starting in the postpartum period; however, there is insufficient evidence to conclude whether interventions starting in pregnancy are effective".
