Weight-focused physical activity is associated with poorer eating motivation quality and lower intuitive eating in women

This study investigated differences in eating motivations and intuitive eating between women who used physical activity to lose weight vs those who were physically active but had non-weight goals. The survey was conducted in 2009 with a nationally representative sample of 1,435 physically active in New Zealand women (40 to 50 years). The research concludes that reasons for being physically active appear to be important when it comes to regulating their eating: weight-focused physical activity appears to be linked to eating quantity, while those without this motivation appear to eat in a less intuitive style.
