Waka Whakamua programme targeting Māori obesity in Rotorua

Rotorua-based community collective Waka Whakamua has secured funding from Te Puni Kōkiri for its first health programme targeting obesity in Māori people aged 24 to 44 years, and their whānau. The contract is called 'Moving the Māori Nation', and is aimed at reducing Māori obesity. Twenty participants are fully funded to engage in a healthy lifestyle through exercise, diet, and nutrition over 12 months, with recruitment commencing early January 2019.
