This review looks at the social determinants of poor health outcomes amongst the Pacific community in New Zealand, Aotearoa. They found that one of the key factors is poor health literacy, which leads to ineffective avoidance and management of noncommunicable diseases prevalent amongst Pacifika peoples. In order to address this issue, the authors propose that culturally tailored health messages need to be developed to increase health behaviour and support better outcomes.
