The Health and Independence Report 2018 is the Director-General of Health’s Annual Report on the state of public health. The 2018 report is divided into the following sections: an overview of New Zealand’s population and overview of the system, determinants of health and wellbeing, population health measures, causes of health loss and our health outcomes, and addressing the challenges. In a sub-section of section two of the report, titled 'Health behaviours and biomedical characteristics', the report discusses “potentially modifiable risk factors” of New Zealanders’ health loss, including unhealthy diet, excess weight, and physical inactivity.
